Kate | High School Senior Photography | Anchor Bay Class of 2017

July 6, 2016

High School Senior Photography is huge this time of year and this time we spent it with Kate from Anchor Bay High School, Class of 2017!  We decided to go and visit one of our favorite places, Belle Isle.  Let me just say, it didn’t disappoint!  We spent well over our session time with Kate and her mother, exploring the Island and all the beauty, nature and buildings it has to offer.   If you haven’t been there recently, you are definitely missing out!  Better yet, schedule a session with us and let us capture wonderful moments with you there just as we did with Kate.  Kate enjoyed her session at Belle Isle. She told us that her “photo session was tons of fun and Belle Isle was beautiful.”  Belle Isle gave us a lot of chances for amazing photos, including having some of the pictures with the River in the background, a location that Kate loved.

Kate is one super busy lady!  She is involved in many activities such as swim team, mock trial, key club, national honors society, honors academy, and jazz band. She is captain of the swim team, secretary of key club and was marching band section leader last year. If you take a look at her letterman jacket, you can definitely see all the amazing accomplishments that make for one heavy jacket!

As we have discussed before, outfits are a big part of any photo shoot.  With High School Senior Photography, the outfits are especially important as they represent the Senior and their personality.  Kate brought 3 outfits. She thought 3 outfits were enough to have a variety but not waste too much time changing. She also brought jackets so she could mix up her outfits. We actually had her start with one outfit and then we went back around to the fountain at the end and had her change back to that outfit again.  Some places look better with different outfits and we work with each and every senior to help make sure their outfits work best with each setting.  We even made her change twice at one spot just to make sure the setting and the outfit were perfect and we were glad we did!

In addition to clothing, props can make a Senior session special.  Everyone has different interests and we could shoot all of our Senior sessions at Belle Isle but each session would be different because the person is different, the outfits are different and the props are different.  In Kate’s case, she brought her gorgeous saxophone that she has played for 7 years. She told us that she loves playing the saxophone and “just knew I needed it in my pictures.” We did some awesome silhouette photographs with the City of Detroit and the Detroit River in the background at sunset with her and her saxophone.  So Awesome!

As you can tell, preparation for a Senior session makes a huge difference.  The details do matter and at the end of the day, you want to be able to look at your pictures and not wish you had done a detail different.  In this case, Kate suggests preparing for your session by bringing a couple of outfits and props that show who you are.  She recommends that you plan to “just be yourself!”  Great advice, Kate!  It is sometimes difficult, especially since most of us are not used to being in front of the camera.  But outfits, location, props and details all help to make that happen.  For Kate, an important detail was making sure she had her nails done.  She told us that she had her nails done at Nail Design by Sam and she chose French tips so that her nails would match all of the outfits she brought with her that day. We definitely agree, especially with us women, nails can help polish off a look.  It is definitely not something to overlook.

Kate was a pleasure to spend time with that evening.  She made us laugh often as she turned her smile on and off.  In her defense, it is hard to be smiley for that long so we ended up having to tease her a bit, and her mom danced a bit, all in an effort to get that natural, beautiful smile of hers.  She also had her serious, fierce look down by the time we were done.  She is a beautiful girl, inside and out with big plans for the future!  She plans to go to college and major in Biomedical Forensic Science and then go onto medical school to become a medical examiner. We have no doubt Kate, that you can accomplish all of your goals and then some.  Congratulations on your last year of High School, I know it will be amazing for you.  Keep up the hard work and you will go far, there is no doubt about that!
